(From my scripture study this morning)
Helaman 8
24 And now, seeing ye know these things and cannot deny them except ye shall lie, therefore in this ye have sinned, for ye have rejected all these things, notwithstanding so many aevidences which ye have received; yea, even ye have received ball things, both things in heaven, and all things which are in the earth, as a witness that they are true.
25 But behold, ye have rejected the truth, and arebelled against your holy God; and even at this time, instead of laying up for yourselves btreasures in heaven, where nothing doth corrupt, and where nothing can come which is unclean, ye are heaping up for yourselves wrath against the day of cjudgment. Mormon, seeing our day, knows that the Gentiles also reject the fullness of the gospel as these people did. You can’t reject something unless you have received it. This isn’t just about missionaries knocking on doors and being rejected. They are only people rejecting the invitation to receive of the fullness through covenants. Only those who’ve made covenants can reject the fullness. This is in the Book of Mormon to warn us that we (members of the church) will do the same thing. One possible meaning of "rejecting the fullness" is rejecting the opportunity/invitation to come into God's presence as the children of Israel did with Moses. The didn't "have" the fullness and rejected it, they rejected the invitation to receive the fullness. Have we had that invitation extended to us as Moses did to his people? They were at the very foot of the mountain when it was extended to them. When we say the "fullness" of the gospel was restored, it may only mean that the scriptures reveal the pattern/path to receiving the "fullness" (God's presence) through covenants and ordinances. When we refuse to follow that path we are in essence, rejecting the fullness of the Gospel. Hmmm....
JS History says, "And he further stated that the fulness of the Gentiles was soon to come in. " When is this time that the fulness of the Gentiles is considered to have come in? Is it a specific time? A period? Is it a fulness of knowledge? Has it happened yet?
D&C 109 says there is such a thing as the "fullness of the Holy Ghost" which implies there is something less than a "fullness of the Holy Ghost".
15 And that they may grow up in thee, and receive a fulness of the Holy Ghost, and be organized according to thy laws, and be prepared to obtain every needful thing;
1 Nephi 22:8 And after our seed is scattered the Lord God will proceed to do a marvelous work among the Gentiles, which shall be of great worth unto our seed; wherefore, it is likened unto their being nourished by the Gentiles and being carried in their arms and upon their shoulders. Have we seen this "marvelous work among the Gentiles" yet? What if the fulness is still coming? Do many Gentiles reject it and some don't and the ones that don't become the nursing Kings/Queens to the Lamanites? Exciting to think about...
3 Nephi 16:10 And thus commandeth the Father that I should say unto you: At that day when the Gentiles shall sin against my gospel, and shall reject the fulness of my gospel, and shall be lifted up in the pride of their hearts above all nations, and above all the people of the whole earth, and shall be filled with all manner of lyings, and of deceits, and of mischiefs, and all manner of hypocrisy, and murders, and priestcrafts, and whoredoms, and of secret abominations; and if they shall do all those things, and shall reject the fulness of my gospel, behold, saith the Father, I will bring the fulness of my gospel from among them. Maybe when he says "I will bring the fulness of my gospel from among them," it literally means the fulness will be brought FROM AMONG those who receive it TO the Lamanites/others... not that they will lose it altogether. Clearly there are many Gentiles that reject the fulness. The list of "sins" clearly disqualifies them from receiving the "fulness" which is God's presence. This may be the prophesied separation of the wheat and tares, sheep and goats....
