conflicting commandments

Adam/Eve two commandments not seem able to keep both

We have command to keep commandments and repent - can't repent if keep all commandments


Both scenarios God gave us the Savior and His Atonement. 

Commandments are given to help us avoid pain of our own agency and temptation.

Repentance is the way out of that pain back into joy with God

Jesus rejoices when you repent



Dream - drop by drop

take a glass and have a faucet do the slowest drop. Even though progress is not discernable as you watch, over time it WILL fill. Same with our obedience. The "oil of conversion" is the daily things that may not seem to make any difference day to day, but over time will completely fill. But If Not...

 I'm looking for a pattern in past scriptures that gives both the possible blessing or the possible curse based on repentance or not. I'm wondering how many times the "but if not" part came to pass. What if ALL the "but if not's" have come to pass. Then maybe we are being told the "but if not's" for our day also will happen... 1. 3 Nephi 10: 6   O ye  house of Israel whom I have  a spared , how oft  will I  gather you as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings,  if ye will repent and  b return  unto me with full purpose of  c heart .    7   But  if not, O house of Israel, the places of your dwellings shall become  a desolate  until the time of the fulfilling of the  b covenant  to your fathers .
